Innocent Until Proven Guilty - Vote NO on HB592

In 2018 NH passed legislation to allow those arrested on nonviolent charges to await trial from home. When a person is detained before their trial for even a short period of time, they face job loss, housing loss, and are unable to care for their spouse, elderly parents, and children. This legislation would subject potentially thousands of Granite Staters to these devastating collateral harms and at great cost to taxpayers.

If passed, HB592 would take that away and would needlessly incarcerate more Granite Staters, unfairly impacting low-income people who cannot afford bail while allowing higher income people to go home before trial.

This legislation flips "innocent until proven guilty" on its head, by presuming guilt and keeping people behind bars. The crime statistics for the past seven years in the state show that crime in NH is significantly down, which makes it clear that not only is this bill based on fear and not fact, but it will not make our community safer.

There's no time to wait. Sign the petition to tell your state representative to OPPOSE HB 592.
