REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS UNDER ATTACK!

Updated: Mar 31

We know reproductive rights are under attack throughout the US and sadly, New Hampshire is of this forefront of this effort. NH Republicans want to eliminate choice, force their will on all NH residents, and cut programs that serve New Hampshire's neediest families.

2-by-Tuesday! Urgent action needed by Tuesday, April 1st: Say NO to cutting the NH Family Planning Program; And provide your citizen testimony to stop HB667, which would force nearly all students to watch anti-abortion propaganda videos as required curriculum.

Action 1: Save The NH Family Planning Program

Contact all members of the House Finance Committee BY TUESDAY and urge them to not eliminate the NH Family Planning Program.

Republican members of the House Finance Committee are seeking to eliminate the entire NH Family Planning Program, which would take away essential medical and reproductive care for low-income Granite Staters.

The New Hampshire Family Planning Program provides important services to NH's neediest residents, treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, birth control, cancer screenings, pregnancy tests, and counseling. The program costs the state under $840,000 to operate each year, and the program receives almost $1 million annually from the federal government.

NH Republicans have created shortfalls in the state's budget by eliminating the Interest & Dividend Tax, decreasing corporate taxes, and implementing an expensive school voucher program. And to offset those shortfalls, they continue to hack-away at programs that serve working families!

NH has the lowest unintended pregnancies and teen pregnancy rates in the country and some of the best maternal health outcomes. The New Hampshire Family Planning Program is an essential part of the network of care that drives these positive outcomes. Let's not go backwards! A balanced budget is essential, but not on the backs of NH's hardworking families, and not at the risk of diminished health outcomes. Keep NH Family Planning Program funded!

Greetings Committee Members,

I am writing to urge that you do NOT eliminate the NH Family Planning Program!  With already deep cuts made to healthcare programs at both the state and federal level, we need to make sure that hard-working New Hampshire families have access to the care that so many can no longer afford!

The NH Family Planning Program provides essential services to needy and low-income NH residents and provides services such a treatment and prevention of STDs, birth control, maternity care and more, which not only help low-income residents, but helps to ensure that we all live in healthier, safer communities.

As a New Hampshire voter, I am letting you know that I support the NH Family Planning Program, and I am urging you to continue to keep it funded. Should the program be cut, I will certainly remember your vote during the next election.

Sincerely,

Your name, town

Action 2: OPPOSE HB667-FN

OPPOSE HB667-FN: Relative to health education and requiring the viewing of certain videos demonstrating gestational development from embryo to fetus through birth by public school students. Link to Bill:  https://gc.nh.gov/bill_status/billinfo.aspx?id=414&inflect=2

About HB667-FN: This bill would require NH Students to watch the "Meet Olivia" anti-abortion propaganda video.

Here’s the Propaganda Baby Olivia Video: https://babyolivia.liveaction.org/

Key Points:

  • HB667 oversteps parental boundaries by forcing children to watch a biased propaganda video, thereby taking away the rights of parents to expose their children to reproductive content matter as they see fit based on the emotional and intellectual readiness of their child, and from their own personal religious beliefs and perspectives.

  • HB667 would require public school health curriculum force students to watch a simulated video demonstrating gestational development. The video is essentially propaganda produces by anti-abortion groups, from an emotional perspective, and includes several inaccuracies and clearly manipulative and misleading information.

  • There are no age limits on this requirement. Student in middle and high schools, would be required to view this propaganda video, and would also require all public college and university students to be subjected to these anti-abortion propaganda materials as a graduation requirement, which is clearly government overreach.

  • This legislation is part of a push by the anti-abortion movement and has been enact across 20 states, forcing anti-abortion disinformation into classrooms under the false pretense of “sex education”. These bills intend to replace comprehensive, science-based sex curricula with ideology propaganda.

  • The subject video (Meet Olivia), was not produced with reputable medical or scientific sources, and has been rejected by unbiased medical and scientific organization across the country for being, inaccurate, biased and misleading on much/most of its assertions.

  • HB667 is not education. It’s disinformation designed to undermine science. The video is clearly intended to trigger emotional response, in that it names and refers to the embryo as Baby Olivia, while a truly educational video would take a significantly more neutral approach this subject matter.

  • HB667 has anticipated annual price tag estimated between $250,000 and $400,000 per year since it would require the Department of Education to conduct annual audits of each school district and the state university system to verify compliance.

Done and shared with friends (a bunch of us BCC each other on emails to elected officials so we can piggyback/save time and I included you but feel free to let me know if it's too much for your poor email inbox!). Note I could not submit testimony (think I already did?) so I sent emails on both.

Thanks for doing this. I usually get the Dover Democrats' action email on Sundays and suspect this will be on their to-do list, but good to get a head start on my good trouble today!
